Regarding the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquake
In the early morning hours of Thursday, September 6, a powerful earthquake occurred in the Iburi Subprefecture of Hokkaido,
resulting in devastating landslides and destruction of homes, mostly near the epicenter in Atsuma, east of Tomakomai (about 60 km/37 miles from Sapporo).
Hundreds were injured, and over 40 lives were lost. It is with heavy hearts that we offer our deepest sympathies to those whose loved ones were lost in this tragedy.
Aside from some home and property damage, all PMF employees were unharmed.
Water and power were lost all across Hokkaido, and the PMF office was no exception,
but after a temporary closure, utilities have been restored and structural inspections have returned positive results.
As of Monday, September 10, we have resumed our normal business hours.
We are taking measures to conserve electricity, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to visitors to the office.
Above all, our thoughts remain with those who are still suffering in the aftermath, including many who are still in temporary shelters, and we sincerely hope that recovery efforts will be swift and effective.
