The purpose of PMF's founding The purpose of the Pacific Music Festival is as follows: to provide world-class orchestral music education to young musicians and showcase the results to a wide audience, to implement music outreach programs in the community, to foster the next generation of classical musicians in the world, to contribute to the development and improvement of arts and culture in Japan, and to contribute to world peace through music.

PMF Organizing Committee history
1991 (Heisei 3)
The Pacific Music Festival Organizing Committee (PMFOC) is established as a Private Organization in Sapporo
2002 (Heisei 14)
The PMFOC becomes an Incorporated Foundation (on April 1), approved by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Agency for Cultural Affairs)
2010 (Heisei 22)
The PMFOC becomes a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation (on August 9), under the administrative jurisdiction of the Cabinet Office
