Tomonori Sato is an alumnus of the Tokyo University of the Arts. He has won various awards, including the Acanthus Music Prize, 1st place in the 16th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition, 2nd place in the 69th and 72nd Music Competition of Japan, the 2nd Lieksa International Trumpet Competition prize, and 3rd place in the 6th Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition. Sato was a part-time lecturer at the Orchestral Research Department of the Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai Philharmonia Orchestra) from 2001 to 2003. He then went on to Germany to study for 3 years at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. His mentors include Haruhisa Okada, Mineo Sugiki, Yoshiaki Fukuda, Edmund Cord, the late Pierre Thibaud, and Matthias Höfs. Sato is currently the Principal Trumpet of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and a contract member of the Siena Wind Orchestra. He is a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, and Shobi College of Music Diploma Department. He is the Executive Director of the Japan Trumpeters’ Association.
