We are deeply saddened to learn that Mr. Roland Altmann (former timpanist with the Wiener Philharmoniker), who made such generous contributions to PMF as a faculty member, has passed away.

Mr. Altmann participated in PMF eight times starting in 1995, instructing a great many Academy members with his gentle sincerity and dedicated musicianship. We will never forget his dignified timpani sound and virtuosic percussion playing, which he contributed to so many orchestral and chamber performances.

We are forever grateful to Mr. Altmann's invaluable contribution to PMF, and we send our sincerest condolences to his family, and to all of the countless people across the globe whose lives he impacted.
