Hiroshi Kato graduated from the Music High School of the Tokyo University of the Arts before also earning a bachelor’s degree there. After winning 3rd Place in the Geneva International Music Competition in 1990, he studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary, then continued studying in Cologne from 1996. He has performed with various orchestras including the Hungarian National Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic, Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. He has also participated in multiple festivals such as the Wiener Festwochen, Prague Spring International Music Festival, March Music Days (Rousse, Bulgaria), and others. Kato is pursuing a varied career as a solo and chamber performer both in Japan and abroad. He received the Grand Prize in the music category at the 74th Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Festival in 2019. This is his first appearance at PMF.
