Yamashita Makiko completed her study at post-graduate course at Tokyo University for Arts following her undergraduate study at Hiroshima University,
Winner of the 1st Tokyo Music Competition Vocal Category, and also awarded the 3rd prize in the 72nd and 73rd Japan Music Competitions. Recipient of the Yonden Arts Encouragement Award in 2015. Yamashita has been singing in numerous opera productions, such as the title role of "Carmen" at Nissei Opera Class (2002), and productions at New National Theater, include Mascagni"s Cavalleria Rusticana, Berg"s Lulu, Puccini"s Madama Butterfly, Bizet"s Carmen, R. Strauss"s Salome, Zimmermann"s Die Soldaten, Verdi"s La traviata and Rigoletto, Korngold"s Die tote Stadt, Teizo Matsumura"s Silence, and Shinichiro Ikebe"s Rokumeikan.
In 2005, Yamashita started appearing the productions by Tokyo Nikikai Opera, and those productions included Verdi"s La traviata, Handel"s Giulio Cesare, and Mozart"s Cosi fan tutte and Idomeneo, and Wagner"s Tristan and Isolde.
For the concert stage, she also actively performs symphonic and religious repertoire with major orchestras in Japan, and the repertoire includes, Beethoven"s Symphony No. 9, Bach"s Mass in B minor, Magnificat, Christmas Oratorio, St. Matthew"s Passion, Handel"s Messiah Vivalidi"s Gloria, Haydn"s Missa, Mozart"s Requiem, Missa Brevis, Duruflé"s Requiem, Verdi"s Requiem, and Mahler"s Symphony No. 2
Yamashita features innovative programs in various styles and languages for her recitals.
