Daniel Foster joined the National Symphony"s viola section in 1993 and was appointed Principal in 1995. He studied with Jeffrey Irvine and Lynne Ramsey at the Oberlin Conservatory and with Karen Tuttle at the Curtis Institute. Since winning first prize in the William Primrose and Washington International Competitions, he has appeared in recitals and as a soloist with orchestras throughout the United States. Foster is on the University of Maryland faculty and has given master classes at the Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Michigan, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He is a faculty member of the National Orchestral Institute. This is his ninth appearance at PMF since 2006.
