“King of his instrument” (New York Chronicle), Stefan Dohr is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest horn players. In addition to being Principal Horn of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Dohr has collaborated as a soloist with leading conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado and Daniel Barenboim. He has performed with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic and NHK Symphony Orchestra.

Dohr is continually expanding his instrument’s repertoire – commissioning and premiering new pieces by today’s foremost composers. He is a permanent member of the Ensemble Wien-Berlin, Berliner Philharmoniker and the Philharmonisches Oktett Berlin. He has appeared at the Lucerne, Salzburg, Rheingau and Baden-Baden Festivals.

Dohr studied in Essen and Cologne, starting his professional career at the age of 19 as Principal Horn of the Oper Frankfurt. He held the position of Principal Horn in Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and Lucerne Festival Orchestra before taking up his current post in 1993. He is a Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Music, the Sibelius Academy, and a permanent faculty member at the Karajan-Akademie der Berliner Philharmoniker and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.

This is his first appearance at PMF.
