The Lumie Saxophone Quartet was formed in October 2014 by alumni of the Tokyo University of the Arts, with a focus on combining sophisticated technical skill with delicate expression and a powerful sound, performing a wide range of repertoire of various genres. Their name comes from the French lumière, expressing their desire to always be a source of light for audiences. Performance highlights include La Folle Journée au Japon and the Spring Festival in Tokyo in addition to various other concerts, arts appreciation events, and outreach activities throughout Japan. In 2016, the quartet performed a highly acclaimed series of concerts in Hiroshima for the Japan Foundation for Regional Art-Activities’ public hall revitalization and outreach forum projects.
This is their first appearance at PMF.
