The SSO Chorus was founded in 2006 as the resident chorus of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2026. In addition to appearing annually in the SSO’s performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and regular subscription concerts, the chorus has presented a wide range of repertoire, including Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the PMF Orchestra in 2009. Through family concerts, regional commemorative events, and major choral-orchestral works, the chorus has played an important role in expanding the SSO’s repertoire and fostering choral culture in Hokkaido. In 2026, the chorus is scheduled to perform Verdi’s Requiem under Chief Conductor Elias Grandy in November, followed by the annual “Daiku (Beethoven’s 9th)” concerts under Friendship Conductor Junichi Hirokami in December. The next triennial audition is planned for early 2027 as the chorus looks toward its next stage of growth.
