Furano (Hokkaido) native Natsuki Nishimoto graduated from Waseda University and Tokyo University of the Arts. In Spain she completed master’s degrees from both the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and the Conservatori Superior de Música de Castelló. She is particularly partial to Spanish and South American repertory. She has won numerous prizes: 1st prize in the 1st San Giovanni Teatino International Piano Competition, 2nd prize in the 6th Campillos International Piano Competition, 2nd prize in the 2015 Malta International Piano Competition, 3rd prize in the 13th “Spanish Composers” International Piano Competition, and 3rd prize in the 15th José Roca International Piano Competition. A number of contemporary composers have dedicated works to her. In 2012, Ukrainian composer Nikolai Kapustin dedicated two pieces for piano duo to her: ‘Three for two, Op. 145’ and ‘Capriccio, Op. 146’ and these were premiered in 2014 by her piano duo “piaNA.” In 2018, Spanish composer Pascual Gimeno dedicated ‘Concert-Estudios de Ritmo, Libros 2’ to her and she released the world-premiere recording of his ‘Concert-Estudios de Ritmo, Libros 1 & 2’ on ALM Records in 2020. She has collaborated with numerous orchestras including the Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra, Northen Rhin Westfallen Orchesterzentrum Chamber Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, and more. In 2017 she gave the European premiere of Kapustin’s 6th Piano Concerto with the City of Barcelona Wind Orchestra, which was broadcast on the local radio station Catalunya Radio. In 2018 she participated in the creation of the CD ‘Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy,’ which was selected as a Record Geijutsu ‘tokusenban’ (“editor’s choice”). At present, she is pursuing her varied career as a solo and chamber musician, treading her own unique path.
