Poga's rendition of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 was praised as “reminiscent in its breadth and generosity of the great Russian conductors of the century: Mravinsky, Temirkanov, Gergiev and maestro Svetlanov. A huge talent unanimously acknowledged” (Les Trois Coups, 2010). Poga certainly has a bright future ahead, having also made his debut with the NHK Symphony Orchestra this month. Don't miss Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 with the PMF Orchestra led by this huge talent!

Bernstein Memorial Festa Concert Flyers

“Bernstein Place” was opened on Marine Day last year marking PMF's 25th anniversary. Leonard Bernstein founded the international educational Pacific Music Festival in 1990, desiring to foster young musicians and share music with as many people as possible.
The Bernstein Memorial Festa Concert is held on Marine Day in honor of Bernstein, leading 20th century conductor and composer, and founder of PMF.
The program includes well-loved selections such as the “West Side Story” Overture, Verdi's famous drinking song “Libiamo ne' lieti calici” from La Traviata, and Gershwin's “An American in Paris.” Enjoy this 2-hour concert with large-screen visuals and the fresh performances of young musicians who will shoulder the next generation. Why not enjoy your holiday by filling it with classical music?

Kitara, Beloved by the Maestros of the World

Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara, famous all over the world for its wonderful acoustics. Valery Gergiev, whose term as Artistic Director begins this season, is among the many conductors who love Kitara. The following photos were taken on the day before Kitara's renewal opening after 4 months of renovations.

The hall's name comes from the ancient lyre called a kithara, played by Apollo, the Greek god of music./The Main Hall features vineyard-style seating, with a capacity of 2008. The seats are surprisingly visible from the stage; a concert truly becomes a form of communication between the performers and the audience. All lighting for the seats is now LED./The conductor's room. Its placement allows for direct access to the stage./The spacious backyard, another of Kitara's features.

Through this renovation, Kitara has achieved even greater refinement. Many legendary performances by the great maestros of the world are sure to follow, including that of Maestro Gergiev!
