FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FOR YOUR AUDITION

When can I apply for the next season?

The next seasons Audition Information will be distributed, and will accept your registration in early November on this web site. If you need the brochure and/or poster in printing, please send your name and postal address and number of copies you would need to audition@pmf.jp with the title "Request brochure." PMF Organizing Committee would start sending out brochures and/or posters from early November.

I have registered and sent in the application form, but received no reply yet.

Audition time allocations and audition venue would be informed to you after passing the deadline date of the city you have applied. If you need to confirm your registration or need to change any item on the application form due to unavoidable reasons, please contact audition@pmf.jp
If you need to know the audition venue, or time for a special reason, such as prior reservation of the airline ticket, you can also write to audition@pmf.jp
Please bear in your mind that audition spaces are served on first-come, first-served basis. The application may close before the deadline, due to number of applications received.

I tried to apply from the web site, but I could not select the city which I wished to be auditioned.

If you could not choose the city where you wished to be auditioned, this might mean that the application for the certain city is closed. You can confirm this by writing an e-mail titled "Cannot Apply" to audition@pmf.jp , but please do not register yourself selecting other city and write to audition@pmf.jp saying that you wish to change your venue. This would arise confusion and we cannot accept your registration.

I am applying for the Orchestra Course. Do I need to bring or send my CV?

You do not need to bring or send your CV. You would need to send your CV if you are applying for the Composition Course or String Quartet Course.

I need to cancel my registration. What shall I do?

Please write or call PMF Organizing Committee, audition@pmf.jp with a title "Cancellation" (telephone no. +81-11-242-2211,facsimile no.+81-11-242-1687). Please write in your name, the course you have applied (for the Orchestra Course, please also write in your instrument), and the registered city.

Can I have scores listed in the audition repertoire?

PMF Organizing Committee cannot send scores due to copyright issue. Please ask your teacher, friend, or search the scores at your conservatory/school libraries, or ask librarian in the orchestra. If you cannot find the scores you can speak out to our judge during your live audition.

Can I bring my score with me to the live audition?

Please use your own score for the audition. We do not prepare any work at the site. There would be stand and chair for you during the audition. Although it is a shared room, you can also warm up a little before the audition.

I am not so sure what it means by "Standard Concerto."

Consider that the piece said to be "Standard" is the work that is played often in general. If you cannot decide whether or not the piece you have chosen is considered to be "Standard," write an e-mail to audition@pmf.jp with a name of the work that you intend to play.

Is audition free?

Audition is free, but you need to pay yourself the travel and accommodation expenses when you come to the audition.

Do I need to pay any tuition fee if I have been selected to join the festival? Is there any scholarships?

There is no tuition fee, nor scholarship when you are being selected as a successful member. PMF Organizing Committee would arrange a return trip between the city where you currently live and Sapporo Japan, and cover all the accommodation and meal expenses during your participation.

When do I know the audition result?

The audition results will be posted on the web site http://www.pmf.or.jp (end of March to early April), and you would be notified on your result by e-mail, or mail or facsimile.
