AUDITION INFORMATION

Pacific Music Festival 2012

The twenty-third Pacific Music Festival (PMF) will be presented in Sapporo, Japan from Saturday, July 7 to Saturday, August 4, 2012. Applications are now being accepted for the PMF Orchestra and Conducting Academy. There is no application fee for the audition. The festival will cover the tuition, travel to/from Sapporo and within Japan, shared-room accommodations during the program period, and also meals during the program period excluding the tour for the successful applicants.

PMF ORCHESTRA
GENERAL INFORMATION

The Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (PMFO) will perform under the baton of Fabio Luisi, Artistic Director of the festival, and Eivind Gullberg Jensen. Additional faculty will include principal/soloist/players of internationally renowned orchestras of Europe and the United States (please refer to the list of participating artists.) The PMF Orchestra's activities will include sectionals/orchestral rehearsals and performances, chamber music coaching and concerts, as well as individual master classes. There is an opportunity to perform with faculty members in the orchestral concerts during the festival. Although the festival officially opens on July 7, 2012, all participating musicians will be expected to arrive in Sapporo on July 2 for rehearsals and leave on August 5. A PMF Orchestra tour is being planned from July 30 to August 4.

ELIGIBILITY

Orchestral instrumentalists between the ages of 18 and 29 as of July 1, 2012, are eligible to participate.

EXAMINATION METHOD

LIVE AUDITIONS

Please refer to the schedule for audition sites, dates, and application deadlines, and complete online application from this website. You will be notified of your audition date, time and location by e-mail after the deadline date. Audition time slots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of the application; thus please be aware that some cities may be closed before the deadline due to a limited numbers of the slots. Piano accompaniment is NOT required as no piano is available at the audition.

 

RECORDING AUDITIONS

Applicants who are not able to audition live may submit a CD audio recording. Please complete the online application at http://www.pmf.or.jp/en/participate/info/ orchestra/kiyaku.php and send your recording together with a printout of your completed application form. Repertoire for the recording should consist of the concerto/solo work and required orchestral excerpts as listed in the repertoire page. Piano accompaniment is NOT required. The recording should be clearly labeled with the applicant's name and instrument, and should have been recorded within the past six months. The recording audition materials must be sent to the PMF Organizing Committee by registered mail and postmarked no later than February 3, 2012. All submitted recordings are NOT returnable.

RESULTS

A list of successful applicants will be announced on PMF website in early March 2012. All applicants will receive notification of the audition results by email or post.
