Orchestra Course

PMF ORCHESTRA (PMFO)

The Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (PMFO) will perform under the baton of the festival's Artistic Director, Fabio Luisi. Additional faculty will include principal/soloist/players of the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berliner Philharmoniker, Staatscapelle Dresden and other internationally renowned orchestras of Europe and the United States. The PMF Orchestra's activities will include sectionals/orchestral rehearsals and performances, and chamber music coaching and concerts, as well as master classes. There is the opportunity to perform with faculty members in the orchestral concerts during the festival. Although the Festival officially opens on July 8, 2010, all participating musicians will be expected to arrive in Sapporo on July 5 for rehearsals and leave Japan on August 6. A tour of PMFO in Japan is being planned from August 2 to 5, 2010.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Festival will cover tuition, international travel expenses between the city you reside and Sapporo, and transportation within Japan, shared-room accommodations, and meals for the successful applicants. There is no application fee for the audition.

ELIGIBILITY

Orchestral instrumentalists between the age of 18 and 29, as of July 1, 2010, are eligible to participate.

Examination method

LIVE AUDITIONS

Please refer to the schedule for audition sites, dates and application deadlines. Registration by post or facsimile closes earlier than that by online. You will be notified of your audition date, time and location by e-mail after the deadline date. Audition time slots are reserved on first-come, first-serve basis upon receipt of the application; thus please be aware that some cities may be closed before the deadline, due to a limit in numbers of the slots. Piano accompaniment is NOT required.

 

RECORDING AUDITIONS

Those applicants who are unable to attend a live audition may submit a CD audio recording to the PMF Organizing Committee. Repertoire for the recording should consist of the solo concerto/work and required orchestral excerpts, as listed on this website. Piano accompaniment is NOT required. The recording should be clearly labeled with the applicant's name and instrument, and should be recorded within the past six months. All submitted recordings are NOT returnable. Your recording must be sent by registered mail TOGETHER with a copy of electronically submitted application form or a print-out, and postmarked no later than February 1, 2010.

RESULTS

A list of successful applicants will be announced on PMF website http://www.pmf.or.jp around March 10, 2010. All applicants will receive notification of the audition result by either e-mail or postal mail.
