Updates from PMF Alumni:

Haruko Motohashi (Violin, PMF1997)
Haruko had finished her studying at the Goldsmiths College, University of London in September 2007, received MMus Masters in Music, specialising in New Music, and in June 2005, received Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction DipRAM (for an outstanding final recital) from the Royal Academy of Music, London, also hold BMus Bachelor Degree 1st class distinction from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. She is now giving recitals throughout the UK, also working as a violin/musicianship tutor, teaching young aged children at, CYM Kensington & Chelsea (Centre for Young Musicians) and the Sitara Toto Montessori Childrenfs House. She is also coaching small string ensemble and a leader of the London Tudor Orchestra.

It's been more than 10 years since I attended the PMF1997, I am still keeping in touch with some of members and visit them sometime in Austria. If I didn't attend to the PMF, I probably didn't think of studying in abroad. It was just two years plan of studying in London, but now I am here for 7 years! having job and performing all over UK which I never thought of doing this kind of things when I was little.

Yuiko Arai (Cello, PMF 2008)
Yuiko recently won the 2nd prize at the 15th International Johannes Brahms Competition P?rtschach, Austria. In Japan, she appears as a soloist in Iwaki Hiroyuki Memorial Concert, which is held at Ishikawa Prefectural Concert Hall in Kanazawa. She performs Haydn Cello Concerto No. 2 with Maestro Michiyoshi Inoue and the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa.

Yoshiaki Onishi (Composition, PMF 2004)
His music has been performed at the Lucerne Festival, and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, amongst other places. He has been very active as a conductor, and conducted his own orchestral and wind ensemble works at Yale University, and also actively conducts works by his contemporaries. He is also involved in educational field; e.g., he initiated "Nishi High School New Music Project" (Hakodate, Japan), whose aim is to introduce music of our times to high school students.
Starting the year 2008, he will commence the doctorate studies in music composition at Columbia University. As a Composition Course member of PMF 2008, he is looking forward to working with the Orchestral members!

Since 2006, Helmut is principal trumet of the Goettingen Symphony Orchestra in Germany.

Louis was named the three finalists who were to perform at the second International Timpani Competition in Lyon.

Xin Jin (1st Violin, PMF 2006 Seasons Quartet)
Xin is now teaching violin at the East China Normal University Shanghai. He has also played solo with the Shanghai Sinfonietta.

Angel Lam (PMF 2005 Composition Course)
Commissioned by Carnegie Hall to write a new chamber work for a Weill Music Institute Professional Training Workshop, which Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble lead.
The workshop presents the world premieres together with other composers in four performances in Zankel Hall on September 16 and 17, 2006.

David Rowden (Clarinet, PMF2005)
David Rowden has recently founded the Sydney Omega Ensemble.
Sydney Omega Ensemble is a Sydney based chamber group comprised of eleven vibrant, young, emerging professional classical artists performing chamber music of the highest calibre. Luis Araya (Trumpet, PMF 1998)
Luis Araya, trumpet (Costa Rica) won 1st Prize of the 2004 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet solo Competition, held at Birmingham, Alabama, USA.
Luis played a solo recital at the 2005 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.

Eric Borninkhof (Horn, PMF1991, 1992 and PMFIO1999)
Eric is now 3rd Horn of Netherlands Radio Symphonic Orchestra, which has a long association with Maestro Edo de Waart, who conducted PMF Orchestra in 2003.


Haruko Motohashi (Violin, PMF1997)
Haruko is currently studying at Royal Academy of Music in London and planning to go on to her Master's degree at Royal College next year. She has been doing various international competitions for these 3 years and she is now preparing for upcoming big competition in March 2006. She is in need of chance to play Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 with an orchestra as a preparation for this competition. If anyone has information as per the availability of such performance, please contact PMFOC. Thank you!


Dinuk Wijeratne (PMF 2002 Composition Course)
Dinuk will start his tenure as Resident Conductor of Symphony Nova Scotia (Halifax, Canada) from August 2005.


Thomas Meglioranza (PMF 2000 Vocal Course, Baritone)
Thomas won Second Prize in the 2005 Walter W. Naumburg International Vocal Competition in Concert Repertoire.

Yoshi goes on to study at Yale University for his M. M. degree in Composition from September 2005. His commissioned work will be premiered by a Japanese pianist, the winner of Artists International Competition, at Carnegie Hall in December this year
